... Not impressed in the sense that he is not a top ace in the league, but as a number 3 pitcher, he is pretty damn impressive, in my opinion. As for the clubhouse issue, the Sox have weathered Manny, Kurt, and plenty others who are far worse than anything I have heard about Lackey. Plus Beckett seems like an ornery MFer, so if he can make it in the clubhouse without too many issues, I'm sure Lackey will be fine. |

There's a difference between being on ornery mother and just being an ass hole, which is what I've heard about Lackey. Yeah, he's great as a No. 3 pitcher, but five years? I'll be shocked if he sticks around that long or is anywhere near as effective then as he is now. |

... I think you'd be hard pressed to find a baseball player in the MLB who isn't a complete asshole. But that's neither here nor there. If he's bad in five years, we can cross that bridge then. Right now, this is a good move for the Sox, in my opinion, and they didn't have to give up anyone for it, just money. At least they aren't selling their future like some other teams (cough...Pirates...cough). |

That's probably why I can at least live with the deal is that they didn't have to give up anything for Lackey. I'm interested to see how he handles the media pressure in Boston. And you're definitely right about baseball players. In all my years in baseball I've met only a dozen or so guys who are decent human beings. |
