No, not this one. Though I must say... BAAAAAAH!!!
Yeah yeah, we haven’t posted anything about the World Cup, and I’m only a week behind on the whole Strasburg thing. So let’s get all caught up after the jump.
-------------------
First off, not being able to watch the World Cup games live sucks ass. And I don’t have the will power to avoid the internets to Tivo them. So let’s just keep it to the US until the knockout round, ok?
Even though we kinda sucked, we are clearly equal with England.
If you were annoyed by the announcer constantly saying that the goal was terribly soft, get over it. The only way it could have been softer is if it went through Green’s legs. Or he did this:
At least that required some placement.
Our defense is going to have to play a lot better to get out of the group phase, as Timmy Howard was a Corey-Moore-like MONSTER in goal.
At any rate, it was the only British spill that Americans enjoyed…

-------------------
So this Strasburg kid is kinda good. 14 strikeouts against YOUR PITTSBURGH PIRATES and another 8 against the Indians. At one point, he went 99 mph fastball, 99 mph fastball, 83 mph curveball. So just what the hell is a batter supposed to do?
The game was absolutely electric. Even Pirates fans applauded him after the 7th inning.
But in the end, who cares? The important part of the game was my wearing of the Andy Van Slyke jersey.
It’s tough to describe what the jersey is to anyone outside of Pittsburgh. It’s not an obvious throwback like Stargell and Clemente, mainly because he wasn’t anywhere near a Hall of Famer. Hell, he was the worst player in the outfield for the Pirates in ‘92, with Bonilla and Bonds playing right and left.
But he was the only one that wasn’t a complete asshat. And the fans, especially 8 year olds like myself, loved him.
So when those 8 year olds see that jersey 17 years later, it’s a big deal (two free beers, to be exact). It’s a pretty original jersey, and I’d never seen another… until one week ago.
Yes, sitting 5 seats across the aisle was another Van Slyke jersey. A picture was required, and may be the best thing to happen to Pittsburgh baseball since 1992.

-------------------
So that’s it. I’d post the early results of the bracket predictor, but scoring doesn’t start until the group phase finishes.
But the leader right now is no doubt avid reader S. Hitzelberg, with her entry "Shitzel 1."
Can we please make that into something? Like saying, "Well that was a complete shitzel" when we run a sweep to the weak side on third and goal.
