Vegetables get no respect. Sure they aren't as sweet as fruit, savory as meat, or fucking awesome as cheese, but vegetables play the important role of supporting cast to all those other foods. They work their asses off and get little to no recognition for their efforts. Give them some love after the jump.

Just like the Meat region, we have a lot of chalk here. But these matchups were a little closer than the meat region, so there is a huge potential for upsets this round. Only time will tell.

1 Tomatoes vs 9 Cucumbers
Tomatoes dropped the bomb on eggplant beating them out 22-5. I knew eggplants were a bunch of pussies. Cucumbers just barely edged out string beans 15-12. So now we have maters vs cukes. Tomatoes have a multitude of uses in cooking, while cucumbers are really only good grilled or in salad. That being said, tomatoes weren't used to stuff rockstars pants in the 70s. That was all cucumbers all the time.

2 Corn vs 7 Onions
This will be an interesting matchup to see how onions respond to their previous battle. Onions only managed to get one more vote than broccoli while corn only had to overcome Mose, apparently, because beets got one single vote. If corn can keep up this scorched earth plan, there might be no vegetable strong enough to stop them.

3 Potatoes vs 6 Lettuce and Leafy Greens
The Irish had their way with peas, because potatoes buried peas 23-3. However, lettuce, an unlikely aggressor, chopped celery 24-2. Which makes me wonder if I underestimated the lettuce supporters or overestimated the celery supporters. I mean I thought celery would be able to garner more than 2 measly votes. Can the Irish stem the influx of the vegetarians supporting lettuce? This one has got me all kinds of fucked up.

4 Peppers vs 5 Carrots
Peppers handily beat up on sweet potatoes 20-7. Carrots got a close call with beans, 15-11. I think peppers will dominate this one, but you never know how they will turn out. I mean there are the people who love spicy shit. So they're going the way of peppers. And there are the people who love bell peppers, and it's easy to know where they are going. But the only real supporters of carrots are bunnies, and they don't have thumbs, so they will find it hard to get online and vote in this tournament.
