It's official: Virginia Tech has ruined Dave Shinskie's football career.
I mean come on, man. We knew you weren't good, but two years in a row? To be fair, he has improved since last year's game. This time he completed more passes to his own team than to ours. However, at this rate of improvement, he should be able to give us a run for our money in about 37 years.
I feel like a broken record saying what I'm about to say, but such is the life of a Virginia Tech Hokies fan.
Our defense was great. A couple of missed plays, but they look heads and shoulders above what they were two weeks ago. They won this game for us. Our offense however, not so great. I mean we can't really complain about 19 points against a conference rival at their house. But still. Four field goals. One touchdown. Awful. You've probably heard it everywhere else, and who are we if not sheep to the VT blogging community: We will not beat NC State next week with that kind of shitacular offense.
Next week RMFW should be back, and our backfield will be whole again. So that should take some pressure off of Darren Evans and maybe he will have less of an opportunity to give the ball to the other team. I mean say what you want about the guy, but at least he's generous, right? Right?
Alright, enough about the game. Everyone has read about it or watched it. It was a great win for us, and shutting BC out at home is always a huge win. Now we have the dark horse of the ACC, the guys who are, oddly enough, going to be one of the toughest opponents we will face all season. At their home. This is going to be tough.
So as you all know, I was in Blacksburg this past weekend. I apologize for anyone waiting at Sharkey's to party with me, but I didn't even make it to Sharkey's all weekend. I know, I'm an ass. But there is much more important stuff to discuss here. Like what the fuck happened to the student body at Virginia Tech.
So Saturday afternoon (or morning really) we head over to Awful Arthurs to catch the game. I've been there only a couple of times ever, and some people we were going to watch the game with were meeting there. Anyways, we get there, and there are only two people in the entire bar. They were no other than TQuigs and Remington. No one else. Eventually the others start showing up, but it was well after the second half started that anyone else even arrived. We had the entire bar to ourselves. And I know you might be saying "that's because it's Awful Arthurs and no one ever goes there" but in reality, the Token Girl and I walked from Mike's through downtown, peeking in a couple of the other bars on the strip looking for people we know. All of them were barely filled. Maybe they filled up later, but the fact of the matter is, does no one watch the games at the bar anymore? Sad.
Anyways, one of the best parts of my weekend came after we had just beaten BC, and I was about to leave the bar. During the game I had enjoyed three pints of the house APA (which was actually pretty decent), the Token Girl had a Bloody Mary, and we got a pound of crawfish, because hey, why the hell not? So I go to get the check and the waitress brings it out, I take a looksy and nearly shit myself. $18. The three beers up here alone would have cost me at least $18. Just one more reason why I love Blacksburg.
In case you were wondering, the wedding was great: the bride and groom looked great, the ceremony was beautiful, the LARPers were in full effect right outside War Memorial Chapel when we all walked out, and the reception was a blast.
But best of all, we shut out BC on the road. It looks like the defense is back. Thank Jeebus.
