The lovely folks at TVbyDirect asked to take part in a guest editorial, and we're always happy to oblige. And just to prove that they actually know their stuff, they put together a preview of some of the games this weekend:

Now that we’re a couple of weeks into October, you may have noticed that everyone is talking about college football, as the standings begin to take shape. If you feel like you aren’t quite getting your share of football games on television, you may want to check out TVbyDirect.com to look at ways to upgrade your programming package to include access to more games. In the meantime, however, here are a few brief looks and opinions regarding the upcoming week for football in the ACC. It looks to be a great week of football.

• In a bit of a strange matchup, this Saturday will see the Miami Hurricanes traveling to Chapel Hill to face the 5-1 North Carolina Tar Heels. The media will probably play this one up, or at least mention it, as a game between two programs that are hurting due to NCAA violations – and let’s face it, both schools have apparently been more focused on breaking rules than being relevant in the BCS the last couple of years. Carolina, however, is off to a surprising 5-1 start, and could have quite a season if they can get by struggling 2-3 Miami.

• 12th ranked Georgia Tech will head to Virginia to play UVA on Saturday, looking to extend its perfect 6-0 start. Of course, it’s a bit early to take the Yellow Jackets seriously this season, as they’ve established themselves as some of the leading almost-contenders for several years now. Georgia Tech always seems to be good but not great – a win at 3-2 UVA would be a decent road statement, however, and could encourage people to take GT seriously. Don’t fall for it… even if Tech wins on Saturday, they’re just kidding.

• 8th ranked Clemson is the other undefeated surprise in the ACC, and looks to keep rolling at 2-3 Maryland on Saturday. People are starting to wonder if Clemson is a legitimate championship contender, and I have to say, with the Florida schools abandoning their winning ways more suddenly than LeBron James in the NBA finals, the ACC could really use a dominant season from the Tigers.

• Florida State travels to Duke this weekend, and the big surprise here is the records heading in. FSU, a perennial powerhouse, is 2-3, and 0-2 in the conference; Duke, meanwhile, a completely irrelevant program just a few years ago, is continuing its drastic turnaround under coach David Cutcliffe, and is 3-2, with a 1-0 conference record and a 3 game winning streak. FSU still has to be the favorite, but the Blue Devils are no joke anymore on a football field.

• The final ACC game of the coming weekend is between 19th ranked Virginia Tech and surprisingly solid 4-1 Wake Forest. This is a crucial matchup… if Tech wins, it will stay on its path to a potential conference championship, as well as national relevance, whereas if Wake Forest wins it will enter these conversations for the first time this season.
