The North End Zone - A Virginia Tech Football Blog

Written by The Northerner | 09 December 2010

rock-santa

To fill the void of posts from now until the bowl game, we have decided to count down the top 21 Christmas/Holiday songs out there.   And just because we’re so awesome (and expect a good bit of banter in the comments) we’re not only going for songs, but the specific version of the songs.  Boo yah.  That just happened.  Give a listen after the jump.

Think you know more than we do about college football? Well we have news for you buster.... you do.

BUT, here's your chance to really prove it.

Play us in the First or Second Annual North End Zone Bowl Pick'em Challenge (FoSANEZBPeC, for short).

Enter here. (Password: hokies) The prizes are pretty sweet:

  • RMFW T-Shirt. (What's that you just said? OMFG? Yeah, we thought so.)
  • Copy of THE powerhour. (If you haven't heard it, it could ruin your life.)
  • A beer, provided by one of your favorite North End Zone contributors. (We'll even play wing-man if you're nice.)
  • A hug. (Only applies to females. Or if you just really, really need a hug.)
  • Your humble editor's notes from Probability class. (What's the probability of me being a nerd?)
  • A free spot in our upcoming NBA Jam tournament.

Any chance you don't enter now? Didn't think so.

Good luck to all participants, but remember: 95% of our readership has successfully predicted the winner in the past 11 Virginia Tech football games. Yeah, we're pretty good.

Not much to say here, we came, we saw, we kicked ass.

- We made the comeback from 0-2 to 11-2 and pooped on everyone in our path.

- I know we might be late getting on this bandwagon, but let me just say that Bryan Stinespring really turned it on this season.  We finally saw what Beamer has been telling us the last nine years.  Now, keep it up, Stiney.  We don't like calling for your head.  It's just a necessity sometimes.  I Promise, if you do good next year we can be BFF4EVA.  Promise.

- We play Stanford in the Orange Bowl.  We are pretty evenly matched teams, statisically.  The only difference is that we don't have a Heisman candidate for our QB.  On the other hand, we have TYROD.  Oooh, I just got the chills.

Stay posted for our bowl game predictions.  Gobble gobble, bitches.

After the first two losses in the season, who the hell thought we would find ourselves here?  Not me, I can tell you that.  But here we are.  Playing FSU for our shot at the Orange Bowl.  Awesome.  Your predictions after the jump.

It's ACC Championship time. Hello again, our friend.

Your humble editor, Poppa Gally, the Hokie Ambassador to Philly/Morgantown, and the rest of your Hokie brethren will be in Charlotte. Win-win? Absolutely.

After the jump... drunken ramblings. It's what we do.

Let me first say that I have seen some spirited fans at sporting events.  In recent seasons we have seen fans in costumes… the Spartan that supports VT, the guys who hollow out pumpkins and wear them like VT football helmets, and of course the ever popular college girl in next to no clothing**  But I actually saw UVA fans wearing Thomas Jefferson wigs, if I hadn’t been buried deep in the middle of the section I would have walked over and punched them in the face.

**Not really a costume but it’s always worth mentioning

So we're TRYING to keep up with the basketball team, but it's proving rather difficult.

Why? Well, we're pretty lazy. But more importantly, our basketball team kinda sucks.

Remember that time we were ranked? Rofflecopter.

We can't shoot free throws. We can't make lay-ups. Looks like it'll be another bubble-licious decision Sunday for the Hokies...

UNLESS we win tonight.

Tonight, we take on #22 Purdue. A signature win makes the rest of the year completely different.

The game starts at 7:30 on ESPN. It's our first big home game, and Cassell should rocking. No more playing in front of 300 people 5,000 miles from home.

So where do we turn to get ourselves back in the top 25?

Easy choice.

Time to get the band back together.

LET'S GO HOKIES!!

Well that was a fun weekend, no?

This weekend was a great college football weekend, one we haven't seen in a while.  Let's take a look at what happened:

- We beat UVA.

- Auburn came back from 24 down to beat Bama.

- LSU lost and got knocked out of the BCS race.

- NC State got beat by Maryland and the refs to get eliminated from competing in the ACCCG.

- FSU crushed Florida.

- Oklahoma pulled it out against OKST.

- Wisconsin continued to be assholes.

- And something else happened that was big, but at this moment I can't really remember wha...BOISE STATE LOST!  I will admit, I was one of the crazy people who stayed up to watch the game, and for some odd reason I held out hope.  It paid off.  It was also nice to see VT mentioned during a Boise State game in a good light, when the announcers were saying how BSU hadn't had fourth quarter competition since the VT game.  Well done Nevada.  Way to finish the job.

Now let's move on to our game.

- We played well.  We finally didn't start the game down by 7.  However our offense in the first quarter was pretty non existent, so that sucked.  But that's pretty much how it always is, so whatever.

- All three of our backs got into the end zone.  That's awesome when it happens.

- I'm kind of pissed that we didn't make a play where Tyrod could get applauded as he walked off the field.  The first series in which Thomas was filling in for him should have had Tyrod play the first down.  Or at the end, we should have forced them to punt and then let Tyrod take a knee.  One of those would have been fine.  It doesn't change the course of history but it would have been a nice touch.

- Also really wanted a shutout.  But it was not to be.  Fucking UVA.

- Hosley is unreal.

- We move on to the ACCCG this Saturday.  It's a huge game.  Let's get out there and get it done.

We beat Miami at Miami.  Man does that feel good.  We also clinched the ACC Championship Coastal berth.  Feels even better.  Now we have our last regular season game against our most hated rival, UVA.  Sweet Cheesus I love this.

Yeah, we know this is super-turbo late.

But it's Thanksgiving. You shouldn't be reading blogs during Thanksgiving. You should be dazed, in a turkey-induced food coma.

Anyways, a very short preview for the annual intra-state beat down after the jump.
