Huge game tonight on ESPN2. The Hokies are looking to stay undefeated at home against #23 Wake Forest.
With the Olympics going on right now, there's really only one way to go with this...

Snowboarder Seth Wescott. He's so pimp, he wins gold medals in jeans.
LET'S GO HOKIES!! |

Two more medals added to our total last night. Germany is catching up, but methinks they don't have the medal-ing potential to the extent that Amerika does. Last night Shani Davis dropped out of the men's 500m sppedskating second race, which came as a surprise, until it was clarified that he only entered the race to get himself some practice for his bread and butter event, the 1000m. Oh yeah he is the defending world champion and current record holder for that race. So I think he made a decent choice. Anyways, here are our new most patriotic people:
Gold: Men's Snowboard cross - Seth Wescott
Bronze: Men's downhill - Bode Miller
Tonight, the only thing worth watching is the women's snowboard cross. We have some pretty awesome and pretty hot ladies competing in that event, and hopefully the finals are chock full of Americans. USA! USA! USA! |

So that whole Snoverfield thing happened here in DC, and you humble editor did not have to work at all last week. Being stuck at home meant lots of free time, but a terrible computer from which to post.
Please accept my deepest apologies for the lack of posting this past week. Kegs don't drink themselves.
A few things we discovered over the past week...
- Tech basketball is legit. Seriously, 20-4??? Sure the schedule has been weak, but 20-4?!?! No one saw that coming. We are now sitting just outside the top 25. Beat Wake Forest on Tuesday night, and we might actually be ranked. RANKED I TELL YOU!!
- Being snowed in for 7 days meant one thing (well, besides drinking constantly): regular Nintendo. Has anyone played Mario Bros. 3 recently? How in the hell did we ever beat that game when we were ten? It took 5 hours.
- Speaking of Mario Bros. 3, is there any more worthless item than that stupid music box thing? Give me a freaking mushroom or something.

- Also related to video games, if you have a Wii, go get Cabela's Big Game Hunter and accompanying sniper rifle. It will change your life.
And that's as deep as our thoughts go for the week. There was probably more, but three kegs later, we can't really remember anything else. |

So we got two more medals tonight: a silver and a bronze. The golds are still elusive to us, but you can bet your sweet ass we will be getting more. Our total is up to 6 now.
Anyways, the most patriotic people of the day are:
Silver: Nordic Combined - Johnny Spillane (and our first medal in this sport EVER!)
Bronze: Men's freestyle moguls - Bryon Wilson
Also let it be known: Canada stopped being pathetic and got their first gold medal on their home turf in the Olympics: Alexandre Bilodeau, men's freestyle moguls. So congrats to you guys up north. To be honest, the Mrs. and I were cheering for them almost as hard as we were cheering for our guys. It's like letting your little brother/sister win one every so often, just to make them feel better about themselves. |

So as we all know the Olympics started yesterday/today and each day (or at least when we remember to) we will be posting the medal count to watch America's awesomeness be shown through how much gold, silver and bronze we can get around our necks. Today, we lead the pack with four medals:
Gold: Freestyle skiing womens moguls - Hannah Kearney
Silver: Short track speedskating men's 1500 - Apolo Ohno
Bronze: Freestyle skiing womens moguls - Shannon Bahrke
Short track speedskating men's 1500 - JR Celski
So there you go. USA USA USA!
Oh yeah, we beat UVA tonight, too. Fuck, we're awesome. |

It's took us some time to really process what has happened in the world of Alaskan Crab Fishermen these last couple of days. For those of you who don't know, Phil MF Harris, he of infinite badassery, has passed away due to the effects of his recent stroke.
This, only mere hours after he guided our basketball team to victory over UNC. Last night we dominated NC State. It is a known fact (in my imagination) that Phil Harris DESPISED the state of North Carolina. I like to think he helped us out last night from up high.
But enough of us using this man's passing as a segue into discussion of our basketball team. Phil Harris was a bad ass to the utmost extent, but from what I've read, loved by his crew and family. So tonight, tip one back for Captain Harris.
On another note, we straight-up dominated NC State last night. So suck it, bottom of the ACC barrel. |

So I got this picture from Gawker.com. Someone who lives in DC took a picture today of their local supermarket refrigerated section. Unreal.
I mean come on. I know you guys are supposed to get a bunch of snow and whatnot, and the town workers aren't very educated in the art of removing snow, but this is ridiculous. It's not the apocalypse. Worst case scenario: you guys get a little more than two feet of snow, the roads are impassable for two days, and the weather warms up and everything goes back to normal. I promise you all, you will not starve. My wife's mother has a friggin' basement full of food on a regular basis, and yet with the threat of Snowmageddon, she freaks out, goes to the store, and buys an entire cow. She's not alone. Everyone does it. Well, everyone in the DC area.
Now you might think that I'm being a dick and don't understand how bad these snowstorms can be. May I remind you that I grew up in New England and currently live in New York. I know snow. If anything, we always bought more beer before a snowstorm, because our wonderful Blue Laws prevented us from getting it on Sundays or after 9PM. So we had to get the full load for the weekend. Same thing in Blacksburg. Granted we never got a ton of snow there, but the people are just as retarded when it comes to clearing snow and ice as they are in DC, if not more. But the supermarkets were never this empty. Except the beer sections.
So what's the point of this post? I don't really know. I haven't posted in awhile so I figured I'd throw something out there. Well that and the fact that you need to man up DC. It's just snow. Pussies. |

So here we go, playing UNC tonight. At Cassel. They aren't ranked and they may be sitting at the bottom of the ACC totem pole, but these guys are still UNC. Sure they're 2-4 in conference play and 13-8 overall. They're still UNC. We can't sleep on them.
Honestly, this is a very winnable game. But if we put out a similar display of doo doo butter like we did against Miami, we will get owned. Mark my words.
However, we still have the help of our hero for this game. We're going to go a different direction than the path CGally usually chooses. Sig Hansen, while badass, has not been helping us as of late. That's why we're going with:

Phil Harris, Captain - Cornelia Marie. First off, just look at the picture. If I were UNC, I would back the fuck off. Quick. Second, he goes crab fishing in Alaska. He's obviously on his boat. I'm going to assume he is on his boat while it is in Alaska. He's wearing a fucking sleeveless t-shirt on the ocean in Alaska. Third, he just got taken out of his medically induced coma the other day after he had a stroke while doing some fishing stuff. He's going to recover and get back to chaining cigs, tearing through waves, and making those pussy-footing crabs his bitch in no time. Why? Because the guy is built like a brick shithouse and tougher than proper grammar is to West Virginians. Guy is a manbearpig.
Gobble gobble, bitches. |

We don't make much of National Signing Day around these parts. Personally, we think ranking recruiting classes is ridiculous.
Here's a look at the schools with the top recruiting classes in 2005 (per Scout):
- Tennessee
- Michigan
- Florida State
- Georgia
- Oklahoma
How'd that work out for you guys? Judging recruits based on their play against high school kids that will grow up to be accountants may not be the best system. Not that those of us in the accounting field aren't badass. We totally are. But if another person sends me a video of some recruit tearing up a AA team from the middle of Nebraska, I'm going to audit their ass so hard it'll make their ears bleed.
The Northerner may have put it best, in an email about signing day:
Shits overrated anyways. Cody Grimm wasn’t recruited.
Bingo.
But should you feel the need to check out the signings from people that actually know this stuff, check out Gobbler Country or HokieSports. They will fulfill all your fantasies concerning 18 year old boys.
One tidbit per ESPN:
Despite signing a class that will be ranked near the bottom of, or just outside, the top 25, Virginia Tech will continue to be a serious contender in the ACC and will get the most it can out of the 2010 recruits. Look for physical safety Nick Dew (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) to flourish in defensive coordinator Bud Foster's system; we feel he landed in an ideal situation to showcase his strengths.
So there you have it. Nick Dew is the new Grimm Reaper. Or he will be, when he finally gets to start in 2012. |
